  • bullet train Shanghai - Beijing

  • Bullet day train (D32) leaves from Shanghai Railway Station at 10.42 and arrives at Beijing South Station at 20.32. We also took the D32 and discovered that at arrival in Beijing South, hundreds of people went to the taxi's. I don't know the reason. Are there too little buses at that time? With our heavy suitcases we went with the crowds to the taxicab ranking and after 45 minutes we were sitting in a taxi. The taxicab ranking has security people who did a good job otherwise it had been a complete mess.
Because of our late arrival we didn't see much of Beijing South Railway Station but it seems to be the largest railway station in China. It opened in 2008. The Beijing South Station is served also by Subway Line 4.

  • Shanghai - Suzhou. About 70 trains daily.

  • Departure from Shanghai Railway Station. Travel time is 41 minutes with the fast train.
A first class soft seat in this fast train is only 31 Yuan. Second class is 26 Yuan.

  • Shanghai - Hangzhou. About 70 trains daily.

  • The fast D-trains depart from Shanghai South Station. The journey is less than 1.30 hour with these trains. Fare is 68/75 Yuan (in 2009) for a soft seat first class. Second class is 10 Yuan cheaper.

The red letters/characters on top of the building: "self service ticket office". There are four ticket machines at the wall. I didn't check them but i think they were in Chinese language. The staffed ticket office is straight ahead - across the street - 150 metres away. Inside this office is a counter specially for foreigners. The foreigner desk sells tickets to all destinations available from Shanghai Station. Each other counter in the ticket office sell tickets to specific cities only.
